Call for Entries R4 : recycled/reclaimed/reused/recrafted July 6 – August 25, 2019
Chicago Sculpture International and Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens present the summer 2019 exhibition of recycled/reclaimed/reused/recrafted sculpture in the lush setting of the garden’s tropical conservatory.
The Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens is certified as a LEED Gold facility by the US Green Building Council and is built and operates with as little negative impact on the environment as possible.
ELIGIBILITY This RFP is open to professional artists or artist teams 18 years of age or older. Artists whose proposals are accepted, if they are not already CSI members, will be asked to join. Artwork can be finished works, proposed works or in-progress works. Entries may have a footprint no larger than 3’x3’ unless it is a hanging installation. Artwork will be placed amongst plant material in beds, so sturdy bases should be included. Due to the tropical garden setting of the exhibition, artwork must be able to withstand water, constant moisture, heat, and sun.
JURY PROCESS R4 will be juried by Carrie Johnson, curator at Rockford Art Museum, and Lyndi Toohill, Manager of Education and Programs at Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens. Jurying will be based on the digital images submitted by artists. Images must represent the actual artwork competing for display July 6 – August 25 in the 2019 R4 show at the Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens. Notification packages will be emailed after jurying.
HOW TO APPLY Please complete the entry form and include documentation and all requested supporting materials. Submit digital images for jurying. All entries must be submitted by May 12.
IMAGE SUBMISSIONS Submit documentation by email to email@example.com. Each artist may submit three entries with three images per piece (full views and detail) for a total of nine images. Submissions should be 150 dpi jpeg or a rendered .mov/h.264 video. Should your artwork be accepted, a high-res image will be requested in your packet.
Include the completed entry form with your images including title, media, dimensions, year for each piece and your contact information with name, address, phone number and email. Label each full-view image with your last name; underscore; the letter corresponding to the entry on your application; and file extension. For example, “lastname_A.mov” or lastname_B_Full.jpg”; label detail image as lastname_A_detail.jpg” or lastname_B_detail.jpg.” Please indicate on the entry form whether the image is full-view or detail. ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION Should your artwork be accepted, details including installation, would be provided in the notification packet that will be emailed by May 28. Accepted artwork must be received by July 5. Artwork must be removed by August 30. Artist is responsible for all shipping/delivery to and from the venue.
