Sculpture & Film - Group Exhibit
Sculpture & Film Group Exhibit
CSI Project Space
October 11 - November 21, 2025
Chicago Sculpture International (CSI) members are invited to submit sculptural artwork in consideration for the upcoming “Sculpture & Film” exhibition within the CSI Project Space located at 1912 N. Damen in Chicago, IL. It has often been said that the art of filmmaking is sculptural, with its use of sculptural skills needed to build sets, the spatial compositions and movements of actors in a scene, or even the construction of films in the editing process. This exhibition will feature a wide range of sculptural artwork that explores the interconnection of sculpture and film, whether it displays film imagery, stills, objects, or material within a singular form; presents film spatially through projection or video monitor display; or emerges as a collaborative endeavor between two or more individuals to explore the parallels of cinematic and sculptural space.
The goal of “Sculpture & Film” is to provide an exhibition space that celebrates the use and inspiration of film within the world of sculpture, allowing for an expanse of traditional to experimental art-making processes, opening up diverse worlds of expression within CSI’s Project Space. Artists and artist teams are encouraged to submit work that can be displayed on the wall, floor, or pedestal. Installation proposals are encouraged, however space may be limited. Artists and artist teams may submit a maximum of three artworks per entry. “Sculpture & Film” will be on view at the same time as the 61st Chicago International Film Festival, showcasing and celebrating filmmakers and sculptors during the months of October and November.

EAC Workshop Opportunity
Paid Opportunity – Community Workshop!
As part of Materiality in Sculpture: A Dialogue Between Substance and Form, CSI is offering a paid opportunity for one exhibiting artist to design and lead a community-engaging workshop that connects to the exhibition’s theme. This is a chance to extend your artistic practice into a public-facing format, fostering dialogue, creativity, and participation.
Workshops can take many forms—hands-on art-making, demonstrations, collaborative sculpture, found-object assemblage, or guided discussions exploring material culture and meaning. We welcome innovative proposals that make the concept of materiality accessible and resonant for a wide audience, including youth, families, or adults with varying levels of artistic experience.
Perks:
· $350 stipend from CSI
· Materials donated by Blick Art Supply
· Location: EAC classroom next to the gallery site
· EAC will help coordinate logistics, space, and promotion.
Dates:
· Deadline: Friday, August 29th, 2025 – or any time sooner!
· Workshop date is up to you! Weekends are best as families might attend.
To be considered:
· Indicate your interest in the workshop opportunity within your application.
· Include a brief proposal (1–2 paragraphs) describing your workshop concept:
o Workshop title
o What will participants do or learn
o Duration of the workshop ( 1-2 hours)
o Needed materials and estimated cost
o How does it relate to your own work or the theme of Materiality in Sculpture?
This is an exciting way to engage the community and share the material curiosity behind your own work. We encourage bold, thoughtful, and inclusive ideas.

Chimeras - Group Exhibit

Chimera
Summer Members Exhibit
Exhibition Dates: June 7 – July 18, 2025
Opening Reception: Saturday, June 7, from 6-9 pm
Drop off artwork: May 31 and June 1, from 1-5 pm
Chimeras are hybrid creatures combining different animals into one creature, some examples which are combined with humans are a centaur (half horse, half human), a mermaid (half human, half fish), Anubis (half human, half jackal). Ganesha (half elephant, half human). Then there are creatures combining different animal parts, like Akhekh - A creature from Egyptian mythology with the body of an oryx and the wings and snout of a bird, and Hieracosphinx – A type of Sphinx that had a hawk head.
We are expanding the definition of Chimera for this exhibition to include any combining of two of more of inanimate or biological objects, such as household objects, machinery, animal, botanical, fungal, or microscopic organisms that normally do not go together, but when combined become a hybrid.
This also has a reference to Dada and Surrealism, described very well with the famous line from Les Chants de Maldoror by the Comte de Lautréamont/Isidore Ducasse: “beautiful as a chance encounter on a dissecting table of a sewing-machine and an umbrella."

International Sculpture Day (ISDAY)
Saturday April 26th is International Sculpture Day (ISDAY)
The world will once again join in celebration of sculpture during the 10th annual International Sculpture Day, or ISDay. Anyone or any organization with an appreciation and commitment to the field of sculpture is invited to participate.
Established by the International Sculpture Center, the first ISDay was celebrated in 2015. Since then, it has grown into a global event with participation from individuals and organizations in numerous countries. It’s celebrated on the last Saturday of April. Organized by the International Sculpture Center (ISC), the event highlights the importance of sculpture as an art form and promotes engagement with sculptural works worldwide.
With artists, organizations and institutions worldwide expected to celebrate the day, participation can be as simple as including #isday on all social media posts! Suggested types of in person and virtual events include demonstrations, exhibitions, interviews, iron pours, online arts course, open studios, panels, parties and openings, sculptor generated projects for Individuals to do at home, sculpture scavenger hunts, tours of collections, unveiling public sculptures, webinars, workshops or simply share Images and description of you work!
Purpose & Activities
ISDay brings together artists, galleries, museums, institutions, and communities to celebrate sculpture through:
Exhibitions & Public Installations – Outdoor and indoor sculpture displays
Workshops & Demonstrations – Hands-on experiences for aspiring sculptors
Artist Talks & Studio Tours – Opportunities to learn about sculptors’ processes
Community Events – Public art walks, panel discussions, and interactive sessions
Shadows: Group Exhibit
Group exhibit at CSI Project Space
Exhibition Runs through April 25, 2025
Shadows are more than just the absence of light—they are symbols of the hidden, the fleeting, and the ambiguous. Across psychology, literature, art, and philosophy, shadows have long served as metaphors for the complexities of human experience. They invite us to explore what lies beneath the surface, confront the unseen, and embrace the mystery of what we cannot fully grasp.
Carl Jung’s concept of the “shadow self” speaks to the parts of ourselves we often deny or suppress—the fears, flaws, and truths that challenge our ideal self-image. Yet, in engaging with this shadow, we embark on a journey of self-discovery, finding strength in vulnerability and balance in the dualities of our existence.
Shadows shift, stretch, and dissolve, echoing the impermanence of our world. They remind us to savor the fleeting beauty of the moment, to find wonder in the transient, and to reflect on life’s fragile brilliance.
Exhibiting Artists: Nicole Beck, Charlotte Briskin, Catie Burrill, Bethany Cordero, Helen Dannelly, Christine Forni, James Hajicek, Alex Jarus, Jen Leibowitz, Dawn Liddicoatt, Marianne Lovink, Dana Major, Angela McElwain, Bill Mitchell, Julia Paloma, Kelly Pelka, Thomas Plum, Vaso Georgulis Powers, Marky Salvati, Howard Sandroff, Zelene Jiang Schlosberg, Snail Scott, Marvin Shafer, David Vosburg, Sishi Wang, Bruce Webber, and Charles Yost
